On Friday July 13, 2018, Brian William James Gibson passed from his brief battle with pancreatic cancer at the Tri-Lake Health Center in Killarney, Manitoba.

Brian was born on the SW21-2-15W in the Municipality of Roblin to Mildred (Hodgins) and James M. Gibson. He attended school in Holmfield and then worked briefly for the TD bank before coming home to farm.
Brian married Pat on July 7, 1962 in Margaret United Church and they were blessed with four daughters. Brian was very proud of his four girls and loved them dearly.  Brian and Pat worked and lived on the cattle and grain farm for 36 years. Brian was active in curling, golf and in retirement, shuffle board.

Brian always found time to give back to his community. His volunteer work was comprised of the Manitoba Pool Elevators which he served on from 1964 to 1974 and the RM of Roblin where he served from 1974 to 1995. While with the RM he served as Councilor for 6 years and as Reeve for 15 years. During this time, he also sat on the Tri-Lake Health District Board and served as Chairman for many years. He was remembered for his kind and gentle manner and common-sense approach for dealing with problems and issues. Brian was an active Elks Member for 49 years and received his Honorary Membership in 2016. Brian could be seen volunteering at many events from Meals on Wheels to Race Days and everything in between.  Once retired from the farm, Brian tried his hand at Real estate with Century 21 but found he enjoyed retirement too much to have a job.

Brian and Pat enjoyed their retirement together, of which fifteen years were spent in Texas and four in Phoenix, as well as travelling through the US and Canada with trips to Mexico and the Dominican Republic. They enjoyed golfing, dancing and socializing with their friends, of which there are many. They never missed a dance where the Fugitives were playing and were a joy to watch on the dance floor.

Brian’s infectious smile could light up any room and his warm personality and friendliness always made you feel welcome. He was a humble man with a heart of gold and a true gentleman. He treasured his friends and family and was a selfless man.

He is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife of 56 years Pat (Coates), and daughters Kim Kirkpatrick (Max, Tara, Blaire), Laure Liwiski (Brad, Kealin, Bryce), Tannis Dunham (Gord, Ryan (Lindsey, Ivy, Max) Stacey, Tyler) and Gina Gibson, Niece Shari Coates and Nephew Scott Coates.  Brian was predeceased by his parents James and Mildred Gibson, Mother and Father in law Jean and Frank Coates, and his Brother in law and Sister in law Murray and Verydith Coates.

The Celebration of Life will take place August 10, 2018 2 pm at the Legion Hall in Killarney.
Donations in lieu flowers and cards can be made to the Elks and Royal Purple fund for Children or the Killarney and Area Foundation.
