Margery Elizabeth Dorothy Smirl (nee Grossart) passed away peacefully at Bayside Personal Care Home on Tuesday, November 20th, 2019 at the age of 81 years.

Marge was born on May 18th, 1938 in Brandon, Manitoba.  Marge is lovingly remembered by her children Allan (Vickie), Keith (Olga), Don (Twila) and Dianne (Archie), grandchildren Ashley (Mike) , Jolene (Tyler), Jordan, Marissa, Abbey and Calli, brother Doug Grossart and many nieces, nephews and cousins.  She was predeceased by her husband Mervin in 2006 and parents Jim and Dorothy Grossart.

Marge grew up in Brandon Hills on Howpark Farm and after high school  continued her education at Normal School in Winnipeg.   After completing her Teaching Certificate, Marge began teaching Grade 1 in Killarney School and then married Mervin in 1960 moving out to the family farm at Lena.  Marge was actively involved with the UCW, WI and the local thrift shop and enjoyed supporting her family’s activities.  Her fresh baked biscuits and buns were a regular treat with family, friends and community.

Marge and Mervin retired from farming life in 1990 and moved into Killarney where Marge continued her job at the library, retiring in 2003.  Marge was active in volunteering in the community with activities at Bayside, the Killarney Christmas Cheer gift program and Meals on Wheels.  These and many more pursuits benefited from Marge’s energy and wide contagious smile.  Marge was a driving force of the Killarney History Book Committee and spent many hours editing “More Reflections” which was published in 2007.  Many residents of Killarney would often see Marge out for her daily walks around town as she enjoyed visiting with friends and neighbours and was always quick with a laugh or story about her children. Marge continued to live in their house on Hossack Ave until Alzheimer’s required her to move into Bayside Personal Care Home in 2014.

After a private interment, you are invited to join the family for a celebration of life at Killarney United Church at 1pm on Monday, November 25, 2019.  Light refreshments and fellowship will follow in the Killarney United Church CE Centre.
