Merton Andrew Nichol 
 Merton Andrew (Mert) was born on June 23, 1921, the second son of Mabel Armstrong and Andrew Nichol in Killarney, Manitoba. 
His early years were spent on the farm where he helped his Mom and family with the farm when his Dad passed away at an early age in 1934.  Farming was his life and he took over the farm after his Mother moved to Killarney. He met his wife Jennie Regner, a schoolteacher at Rose Valley School, and they were married at St. Stephens Broadway in Winnipeg on April 5. 1947.  They spent 66 years together.  They had two sons, Barry and Garth. 
 Mert farmed all his life running a mixed farm and working with his Brother Ivan and nephews for haying and harvesting.  It was a life he loved and the successes and hardships made him into the man we all loved and cherished.  After many years of farm life it was time to move to Killarney and in 1986 they moved to their house in Killarney where the lawn and gardens were always tended with love and care.  Then they moved to Johnson Apartments and spent many happy years there where the balcony always had hanging baskets and a couple of tomato plants. Jennie passed away in 2013.  Mert remained in the apartment until February this year and quietly passed away on May 21 surrounded by his family. 
Dad was predeceased by his Mother (Mabel); his brothers Ivan (Norma); Ken (Tete);and his sisters Laverne (Neil); Norma (Dan); Kay(Don); his sisters in law Flora Nichol and Jean Nichol; his nephew Ronnie, and Kirk, and Niece Patsy.  
   
Left to cherish Mert's memory are his sons Barry(Lyle) and Garth(Cheryl); grandsons Matt(Kaitlyn); Stefan(Simone); Dillon(Shanlee) and his cherished grandchildren Drew, Av, Brooks, Torren, Ash, and Ellis,  His brothers Bob and Harvey and his sister in law Carol.  He is also survived by many nieces and nephews; and special extended family Dean (Lori) Kinley and their boys Ryan and Mike. 
Funeral service was held at Killarney United Church on Monday May 27 with the Rev Maria Szabo-Berces officiating. 
Interment was in the Killarney Cemetery. 
Pallbearers were his grandsons Matt, Stefan, Dillon and Dean, Ryan, and Mike Kinley. 
Everyone present were Honorary Pallbearers. 
Wheatland chapel were in charge of arrangements.
