Ruth Gowanlock was born in Glenboro, Manitoba on October 5, 1930.  She was the youngest child of Gordon and Lenore (Mason) Gowanlock. She passed away peacefully on July 3, 2018 surrounded by the love of her children.
Ruth grew up on the family farm just south of Glenboro.  Upon graduation from high school she moved to Winnipeg and attended Business School. She married Lorne McCallum on January 31, 1953 and they began their married life in Glenboro.  In 1967 they moved to Manitou where they would remain for the rest of their lives. After sending their last child off to kindergarten, she worked in the Administration Department at the Pembina Manitou Hospital for 20 years.
She was a very active woman right up to the onset of her illness.  She volunteered at the church, the curling rink, and even delivered meals on wheels until the early part of this year. Oh yes, and the butter tarts she made. She took them to every function she went to whether it was to a family event or a function with her many friends.
She was an avid sports fan.  She loved harness racing, curling, hockey, and floor curling but, most of all she loved baseball. No matter if the Minnesota Twins were having a good year or a bad year, she was a loyal fan.
Her family was her pride and joy.  She always kept up to date with every family and enjoyed seeing them in their activities and looking at pictures of their accomplishments.  She truly loved every one of them as they loved her.
In the spring of this year, Ruth received a cancer diagnosis that was less than favorable.  She accepted it with grace and strength and remained in charge of her destiny until her passing.  Her courage through the last 6 months was unbelievable. She was an inspiration to all those who cared for her.
She was predeceased by her husband Lorne in 1989, brother Ken (Bubbles), and sisters Velma McNinch and Winnifred (Bob) Sillphant, brother in law Murray Clark, and sister in law Florence Gowanlock.
She is survived by her children, Gerald (Donna), Darryl (Bobbi), Luanne (Keith) Wooldridge and Tracey (Dwight) Crawford.  She was the proud Grandma of Shania (Scott), Mandy (Jason) Julie (Keith), Jill (Scott), Jennifer (Russ), Shannon (Allan), Justin, and Dennis (Stephanie). Her great grandchildren all loved and adored her. Danica, Ryder, Easton, Grady, Jett, Kipp, Jordynn, Brooks, Ethan, and Jagger. Also missing her immensely are her brothers Don and Jack (Wilma), sister June Clark and brother in law Bruce McNinch.
Her funeral was held at St. Andrews United Church in Manitou on July 10, 2018 at 11:00 am. with graveside interment at Glenboro Cemetery at 3:00 p.m.  We are very grateful to Rev. Irene Onuch for presiding over the service.
The family would like to thank N.P Brenda Dow, Dr. Earl, Dr. Kroeker, Dr.Woelk, the Palliative Care Team and the staff of Boundary Trails Health Centre for the excellent care Mom received.  Thank you to the staff of the Pembina Manitou Health Centre staff and Palliative Care team for making Mom’s final weeks the best that they could be.  Also thank you to Wheatland Funeral Home for the care and compassion you showed to our family.
