Allison Jean (Jeannie) MacAulay (nee Clark)
November 18, 1941 - May 25, 2025

Following a brief illness, Mom left us on Sunday morning, May 25, at the age of 83.
Cherished wife of Lloyd Elwood (1939-2021); devoted mother to Jeff and Kim (Darwin Miller); proud Grandma to Neil,
Joshua, Paul and Chelsie; Aunty and Great Aunty to many nieces and nephews.
Mom enjoyed a lifetime filled with deep love for her family, her community and all things fuzzy and
furry.  Born in Teulon, MB, to Mary (nee Laing) and Elwyn Clark, and the younger sister of Elizabeth
(Stewart Carter), she spent her early life on the family’s mink and fox ranch just north of town. Mom
savoured every minute of farm life and the great outdoors, always preferring to be barefoot and
surrounded by animals.
Having lost her father at the tender age of 14, Mom assumed more than her fair share of farm chores.
When she was just 16-years-old she moved on her own to Winnipeg after the farm was sold.  There, she
finished her high schooling and enrolled in Herzing College for a career in administrative assistance. She
found rewarding work with Prudential Insurance Co. and also did some modelling and acting to fill her
long evenings in the city when she wasn’t at the roller rink. It was during this time she met Dad, a Pilot
Mound born and bred farm boy, at a Young United Church young adults’ gathering. An October
1963 wedding was held and the decision was made to return to farm life near Pilot Mound.
In 1966 Jeff came along, followed by Kim in 1969. The family now complete, time was spent tending to
the livestock and fields, with frequent family vacations far and wide, dotting the calendar.
Mom had a great sense of wonder and interest in the world around her, but nothing brought her as
much joy as her animals. Cats, dogs, raccoons, rabbits, birds, and any other of God’s creatures in need
of a loving touch, found their way to our doorstep and into our home and hearts. Her grandchildren
were also a source of immense pride and joy in her life, brightening her days with their laughter and
adventures.
Growing up in a small town, Mom understood the value of her church and her community. She worked
for many years as the Pilot Mound United Church secretary followed by many more years as the town
librarian - a position she thoroughly enjoyed as reading was one of her most favourite pastimes.
She was a gifted writer who relished in short prose, poems and encouraging affirmations which would
often arrive in the mailbox of family and friends at the exact moment they needed a kind word. Mom
also enjoyed many years volunteering with the UCW, CGIT, and teaching 4-H sewing.  But her favourite
place was at home on the farm and with a cat on her lap and a dog at her feet.
Mom taught us the value of gentle kindness and hard work, about respect for all of God’s creatures and
creations, and that it was sometimes okay to get the giggles in church.

We love you Mom and we will miss you more than you could think possible. XXOO

“Even though none of us can go back and change anything that lies behind, we can begin afresh as the
ancestor-to-be of our own families. We can choose values and a lifestyle that our children will first
observe then determine whether or not to follow. It is an awesome responsibility and the only truly lasting legacy.”
