Barry Bewick Obituary

Suddenly, yet peacefully, Barry Bewick passed away in his home on Saturday, January 20, 2024.

Barry was born on August, 25, 1946 in Winnipeg, as the youngest child of Lillian and Jim Bewick.  He was predeceased by his parents, and his older brother, Jim.  He will be missed by his daughters, Andrea (Nathan) Klassen, Allison (Jeremy) Rasmussen, his five grandchildren; Morgan, Aaron, Derek, Evan and Kellen; and his sister, Anita (Ivor) Cobb. He also leaves to mourn his two grand-dogs, Ozzy and Otis, his former wife and friend, Sheila and George Kozak, nieces and nephews, and many friends.

Barry grew up in West Kildonan, attending school at Centennial and Edmond Partridge.  He worked at Eaton’s before starting his long career with Canada Post as a letter carrier, a job he enjoyed for over 30 years. After retirement in 2007, he spent most of his time at the place he loved best, the golf course.  He spent several winters in Texas, before his health issues prevented his travel.  Summers were spent at Oakwood Golf course, where he played almost daily and marshalled during tournaments.  Golf was his passion, and he was proud to have continued to “shoot his age” several times over the last few seasons! During the winter, Barry enjoyed watching his grandchildren play hockey and spent time cheering on the Jets and watching golf and curling on tv.

A small family service will take place, and a larger celebration of life will be planned at Oakwood Golf Course in spring or summer.

Donations in Barry’s honour, if anyone wishes, can be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada or the Boundary Trails Health Centre Foundation.
