Cornelius 'Neil' Wiebe was born October 4, 1933 to Johan and Helena Wiebe. He was the sixth of eight children. The family had a farm near Horndean, Manitoba where Neil learned how to work diligently and he continued this honest work ethic his entire life.
When Neil grew up, he moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba where he worked many jobs. Some of the jobs included Eatons, where he was a certified power engineer, Rancho Realty, the City of Winnipeg where he was a Special Constable in the Real Estate Division from where he retired in 1997, and maintenance caretaker at Concordia Retirement Village. He enjoyed work and would often take on side jobs and do many favours and lend a hand to those in need. Neil also loved watching sports, keeping politically informed, gardening and spent many hours tending his colourful and flourishing flower gardens.
In 1955, Neil met the young and beautiful Kathie Fast! He was quick to fall in love and the two were married on May 19, 1956. Together they raised six sons.
Neil and Kathie were very dedicated to their faith in God and shortly after their wedding, Neil was baptized. Together, they were involved in many ministries. Neil had a heart to speak and teach The Word and to spread The Gospel. He and Kathie also loved spending time with their families and many friends. These visits and reunions provided them with very close relationships with their siblings and many nieces and nephews. These relationships were cherished throughout his entire life.
Neil and Kathie were blessed in many ways, but they also experienced some tragic hardships. In 2004 they were predeceased by their eldest son, Randy. In 2011, they were predeceased by their youngest son, Reynold. Then recently, in March of 2021, they mourned again as they were predeceased by their son, Richard. Through pain and sorrow, Neil and Kathie's faith never failed. They continued in prayer and trusted that God was in control and God was faithful to always carry them through.
In 2018, with Neil's health failing rapidly, Neil and Kathie moved to Boissevain, Manitoba with their son, Rheinhardt, and his family. With his heart getting physically weaker, Neil was hospitalized in Boissevain Hospital a few weeks later. Through tremendous medical help at the hands of Dr. Nell and the caring staff, Neil's health began to rebound somewhat and he and Kathie moved into Evergreen Personal Care Home in late November of 2018. It was here that Neil had his last earthly home and it truly became a HOME for both Neil and Kathie. It is at Evergreen that Neil and Kathie spent their final years together and were cared for by the extraordinary people there. At Evergreen, they were not only looked after, but they were loved! The love they experienced was evident as they built relationships with everyone around them. At Evergreen, Neil loved to puzzle and each week they looked forward to a ZOOM call from Robert and Cindy when Vivianna would beautifully play the piano for her grandparents.
On September 17, 2021, at the age of 87, with family at his side, Neil passed away very peacefully at Evergreen Personal Care Home. He was predeceased by his parents, Johan and Helena Wiebe, his sisters, Elizabeth Hiebert, Helen Neufeld, Anne Wall, and Agatha Wiebe, his brothers, John and Jake, his beloved sons, Randy, Reynold and Richard. He leaves to mourn his ever faithful wife of 65 years, Kathie, his sons, Robert (Cindy), Roland, and Rheinhardt (Leanne), his grandchildren, William (Denise), Carl, Reilly, Vivianna, James, Rachel, Emily, Randy, Mercedes, Jessica and Luke, and one great grandson, Westley. He also leaves to mourn his brother, Abe (Lenora) and many precious nieces and nephews, in laws and friends.
Neil will be missed, but we rejoice that he is in heaven with his saviour, Jesus Christ!
