Doreen O. Cote (nee Sjogren)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother Doreen on January
29th, 2023. Mom passed away at the Tri-Lake Health Center with her family by her side.
Doreen O. Cote was born April 7th, 1939. She was predeceased by her loving husband Oliver
Cote, and her parents Olaf and Laura Sjogren.
Doreen grew up on a family farm near Bengough, Saskatchewan with her parents Olaf &
Laura, her three siblings; sisters Isabelle & Carol and Brother Bill. As a young adult she came
to Manitoba to work at the Pelican Lake Training Center. Shortly after moving to Manitoba
Doreen met Oliver, the love of her life. In 1960 Doreen & Oliver were married in the Dunrea
Catholic Church. After they were married Oliver bought the family farm where they raised
their 5 children, Carl, Gordon, Maya, Virgil, & Bruce.
After raising their children, Doreen went back to work at the Training Centre until it closed in
2000. She then worked at Southwest Community Options until she retired. Mom was
involved in many community clubs and was especially proud of her volunteer work & time
as a care provider at the Pelican Lake Training Center. Anyone who knew Doreen knew of
her tremendous commitment to the church and the choir. After retiring from the farm in
1996 Doreen & Oliver moved to Dunrea where she spent time doing different hobbies &
watching grandchildren. Doreen had a love of gardening, she worked at the Killarney
Greenhouse for several years helping with the spring transplanting. While living at the Royal
Manor she filled her summers tending to the plants outside and even made it into the local
paper with her sunflowers. In recent years she would drive from Killarney to Dunrea on
Sundays to attend Church followed by her weekly check in of her sons, grandchildren, and
great-grandchildren that live along “Cote Road”.
She leaves to mourn, son Carl (Sue, Darcy (Ashley), Dean). son Gordon
(Brenda, Russell (Jessica, Ella, Keeyan, Hadley, Dane, Aria) Eric (Alecia, Braylee, Braxton), daughter Maya (Ralph, Jara), son Virgil (Taralee, Logan (Carleen, Cooper), Cole (Kayla, Maverick)), and son Bruce (Tanya, Devon (Mari, Lily), Shaylynn)
