Elaine Irene Ashley Finney left this world on November 13, 2023. She is missed and lovingly
remembered by her daughter and son-in-law, Audrey and Wolfgang Dauke, her grandchildren,

Ashley and Kira Dauke, her sisters, Diane Melnychuk and Colleen Lyne and her brother and sister-
in-law John and Pat Moore.

Elaine was predeceased by her son, Curtis, her first husband Mackay, as well as her brothers Jim
and Michael. Her parents, Irene and Earl Moore also predeceased her.
Elaine was born and raised in Pilot Mound, where she was a strong student and later attended
college to become a teacher. She married Mackay and lived in Manitou for many years. There she
operated Manitou Fashion Fabrics with her mother. Elaine and Mackay then moved to Vancouver,
BC where she was a real estate agent.
The next move was to Mesa, Arizona. This is where Elaine would spend the remainder of her life. The
desert air agreed with her and she spent many happy years there, first with Mackay, owning and
operating several bars. The last of these was the Cactus Club, which Elaine proudly operated by
herself for many years after Mackay’s death.
Arthur Finney came into the picture and the two were joined in marriage. They lived happily in
Leisure World, in Mesa, Arizona. One of the greatest joys of that union was her new step children.
Kay Finney, Elaine’s stepdaughter, would become a prominent figure later in her life.
After Art’s passing, Kay introduced Elaine to her new life partner, Leo O’Laughlin. Together, Leo and
Elaine enjoyed life in Arizona and were contributing members of the Leisure World community.
They enjoyed traveling across North America in Leo’s motorhome.
Elaine had an artistic flair. She never stopped and was always trying new things. Throughout her
long life she dabbled in the arts of fabric, floristry, doll making, painting, ceramics, and jewelry
making, becoming quite proficient in the latter.
She was a jack of all trades as a teacher, mother, fabric store operator, real estate agent, and
owner/operator of the Cactus Club. Variety was the spice of her life and she enjoyed all of her
occupations.
She was well taken care of in her final years by Kay Finney and Dawn Wheeler.
A graveside burial service to honour the memory of Elaine Irene Ashley Finney will be held on
Saturday, July 6 at 2pm at the Manitou cemetery.
