Elsie was born to Henry and Mary Janz in Molne, Germany, en route to their new life in Canada.  Elsie attended the Primrose School near Croll, Manitoba and completed high school in Boissevain.

Elsie went on to earn her Registered Nurse diploma from the St. Boniface School of Nursing.  She began her career as an Outpost Nurse in Alonsa, Manitoba with diverse and responsible duties. In 1955, Elsie married Clark Dunn and worked as a Public Health Nurse in Virden and later at Brandon General for ten years. Elsie divorced in 1969 and completed her nursing career at Boissevain Hospital in 1993.

As a single parent, and with the support of her parents, Elsie raised her family of four instilling values of patience, forgiveness, fortitude and persistence.  There were many challenges but Elsie was always there to support her children, and later her grandchildren.  She was an amazing cook and hosted many holiday occasions. Her delicious apple pies were a favourite request at family gatherings. Elsie always remembered the numerous special occasions for her children and grandchildren.  In her later years Elsie liked to communicate via text messages with her family.

After retiring at the age of 60, Elsie became the caregiver for her parents Henry and Mary.

Elsie was an avid reader and enjoyed golfing and bowling with her many friends.  To the end of her life, she was a keen card player and loved a challenging game of Scrabble. Many hours were spent at the Drop Inn Centre playing rummy and bridge. A family gathering was not complete without a daily competitive game, or three with Elsie.

Within the community, Elsie was an active volunteer and a devoted and steadfast friend, always there to help. Elsie will be missed by the community and her lifelong friends.

Elsie is survived by Shelley (grandson Joel and daughters Alicia and Brooklyn) and grandson Michael; Jeffrey (Susan) and grandsons Colin and Graham), Raymond (Geri) and granddaughter Leigh, Bruce (Shelley) and grandchildren Carly and Brodie.  Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Harry and Mary Janz, sister, Susan and her grandson Corey Dunn.

Elsie will be lovingly remembered by all.
