Elsie Leota Reekie, 91, of Ottawa, passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 2nd, 2019.

Elsie was born to Jim and Jessie Edwards on February 4th, 1928 in Medora, MB.  Growing up on the family farm she experienced the joys as well as the tribulations of rural Manitoba in the 1930’s.  The family was close, and remained so throughout their lives.

After a short teaching career in the Medora area Elsie started work at the Royal Bank in Waskada, MB. This would prove to be a fateful move as she met a young man named Gordon Reekie who worked at the General Store in Waskada and he would often bring deposits to the bank.

Elsie and Gordon were married in 1950 and moved to Winnipeg where they resided for a short time before moving to Tisdale, SK. in 1951, where their three sons were born.

In 1966, the family moved back to Winnipeg where they lived until 1972 when they relocated to Toronto.

In 2004 Elsie and Gordon moved to Ottawa to be close to son Jim and family and in 2006, she lost her beloved Gordon to cancer.

Elsie was predeceased by her brother Elvin Edwards and her two sisters Irene Williams and Jean Griffith. She is survived by her brother Howard Edwards, her three sons, Ron, Jim and Bob, six grandchildren, Rochelle, Christopher, Ted, Matthieu, Caroline and Christian and four great grandchildren, Akasha, Jones, Olivia and Chloe.

Elsie's life revolved around her family. There was nothing she wouldn't do to support her husband and sons.

She was also a very generous person, a trait she came by honestly as her parents often invited in complete strangers as well as friends for a meal during the hard times of the 1930s. She was especially generous with her time as she canvassed tirelessly for many years in support of the Heart/Stroke and Cancer foundations and especially the Conservative Party of Canada.

Elsie was an avid and accomplished bridge player. She was also an enthusiastic sports fan, especially when it involved her sons, her Leafs or her Blue Jays.

Alzheimer’s had stolen Mom's identity and robbed her of many years of happiness but her spirit continued to shine through. Even in her illness she continued to give, teaching us the importance of caring for those around us.  Finally it was her time and now she is free of her disease and can re-join Gordon.

We miss her but will always remember that beautiful smile and the person behind it.
Services for Elsie will be held on May 2, 2019 starting at 1:00 PM at the Deloraine United Church in Deloraine MB. A lunch at the Mountainview Centre will be held after her service.  Private interment will take place at the family cemetery in Medora MB.
