It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our mother,
grandmother, sister, life partner and friend on April 8th, 2024 with family by her side.
Mom was in her 81st year and predeceased by her father and mother (George and Ruby
Hunter), Brothers and Sisters (Fraser, Ivan, Elmer, Loretta, Rita, and Gladys) and husband of 53 Years, Ron Thody.
Mom will be lovingly remembered by her three children Glen (Tracy), Lyall (Patty), Pamela
(Ken) and their families. Grand daughters Mackenzie, Lauren, Sarah and grandson Evan.
Mom leaves behind her sister Beth, Marlene and brother Murray.
Mom was born in Manitou, Manitoba and was raised in the area with her 9 siblings.
After Mom and Dad were married on September 3, 1959 Ron went to teachers College in
Calgary and then was offered a position in Inuvik, North West Territories which they
thought would be a short term position but ended up staying for 30+ years. Ron was a
teacher at the local high school, and Mom became pregnant with Glen and two years later
Lyall and Pamela 4 years after that. In 1978 the family moved to Hay River where Ron
became the Principal of the High School and Mom lovingly raised their kids, later entering
the work force in various administrative positions. Mom and Dad retired in 1994 and left
the North they loved so much to reside in Mather Manitoba where they moved into Dad’s
family home that he grew up in.
Mom’s greatest passion in life was her children, reading, cooking and baking. She was an
excellent homemaker with always great food prepared and the best fresh homemade bread.
Ron passed peacefully in 2013 and a few years later Mom met the second love of her life,
Don Edkins. They had 7 fun filled years together travelling south to Texas in the winters
and summers spent at Don’s cabin on Rock Lake. Don’s family welcomed mom with open
arms and lots of love and they became her second family which we were so grateful for.
The family wishes to thank Georgina’s dedicated nurses and health aides at the Killarney
Tri-Lake Health Center for their exceptional care over the last year.
