Helen Margaret Hole was born June 10, 1936 at the Grace
Hospital in Winnipeg, Mb. Nelson and Clara
McCorquodale adopted Helen when she was 6 months old
and there began her life on the farm in the Wassewa
District. Helen had a happy childhood living on the farm
and attending Wassewa School. Growing up with only
one brother, Donald who was 16 years older, there was an
abundance of affection and love towards Helen. Following
high school Helen attended Manitoba Teacher’s College in
Winnipeg for 1 year. Following two years of teaching, one
at Lyons Hall, near Killarney and the other, Huron, Crystal
City, Helen married Barrie Hole August 7, 1956.
Now, life got a little crazy for Helen and Barrie. The
teaching career was short as Ken was born June of 1957,
Keith 14 months later, 1958 and Howard 14 months after
that in October of 1959! Helen and Barrie along with Ken
and Keith lived upstairs in the big farmhouse at Brookside
while Barrie’s parents lived on the main floor. When they
were expecting Howard, Barrie’s parents, Laurie and
Joyce Hole made the decision to move to Boissevain to
allow the expanding family more space. Brookside Farm
was now solely their family home and farm. 5 years later
Elaine was born to complete the family.
Helen was far from a stay-at-home Mom, she was a
domestic engineer who ran an incredibly organized,
loving, and busy family. Family was extremely important
to Helen and Barrie. Ball diamonds, hockey arenas and
gymnasiums were frequented often through the years.
Friends were also important to Helen and Barrie. Between
dancing and travel different friendships were nurtured and
cherished. There was time for all in Helen’s life and every
person in Helen’s world knew they were important to her.
Along with friends came the Church and community.
Volunteering was extremely important and fulfilling in
Helen’s life. Giving back to the community was top on
Helen’s agenda.
Once life slowed a little Helen assumed the Driver’s
Education program in Boissevain. Following that Helen
and Barrie shared a School Bus route for several years.
There were many celebrations from anniversaries to
birthday parties. An opportunity to celebrate was not
missed with parties, picnics and dances topping the list.
Following the marriages of their 4 children came the 10
Grandchildren. Every grand child was important to Helen.
Other items of importance in her life include the cabins at
Lake Max, Dancing, Golfing, Bridge, watching her children
and grandchildren during sporting events, festival and all
the activities they took part in.
In 1989 Helen and Barrie moved to town of Boissevain,
enjoying their new house and town life for the next 32
years. In 2021 Cherry Creek Place was completed so
Helen and Barrie made the move to this grand new facility.
Unfortunately, only 2 years were spent here as Helen’s
dementia progressed. In September of 2023 Helen and
Barrie became residents of Westview Lodge, Helen living
out her last days there, passing away October 9, 2024.
Helen was predeceased by her parents, Nelson and Clara
McCorquodale and her brother Donald McCorquodale.
Helen is survived by her husband of 68 years, Barrie Hole,
sons Ken (Happy), Keith (Diane), Howard (Patricia), and
daughter Elaine (Donnie); grandchildren – Jennifer (Kyle),
Brittney (Jay), Mackenzie (Maisie), Riley (Julie), Patrick
(Laura), Jillian (Nick), Kaleigh, Kelsey (James), Wade,
Dawson (Jenna) as well as great-grandchildren – Nolan,
Kellan, Avaiah, Kacie, Charlotte, Kye, Meredith, Brynlee,
Tucker and Milo.

messages of sympathy. A special thank you to Milo
