With hearts full of love and gratitude, we remember and celebrate the life of Jacquie (Adams) Skage. A devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She leaves behind a family who adored her; her daughters Haley and Susan, her cherished grandchildren; Alexandra, Colin, Conan, David, Amanda (Connor), Aidan, Gillian, and Rohan; and great-grandson Malcom. She will also be deeply missed by her twin sister Judie, her son-in-law Chris, and her great-niece Lisa.
Jacquie was born and raised in Arcola, Saskatchewan, alongside her twin sister, Judie, and brothers, Donny and Bobby. She was the daughter of Dr. Ernest and Ethel Plaster and grew up in a home filled with love, learning, and adventure. Though she began her career in nursing, it was in teaching that she found her true calling. Her passion for education took her across Canada, from Labrador to Regina, Odessa, and Prince Albert, but her heart always belonged to the northern communities she served. Her love for adventure also led her overseas, where she shared her knowledge and warmth with students in China and Vanuatu.
Jacquie lived a life rich with love and adventure. She married her best friend, David Adams, and together they raised their daughters with an adventurous spirit, filling their days with teaching, sled dogs racing, and exploring the beauty of the North. Though their paths eventually diverged, their bond remained strong until David’s passing in 2009.
In 1997, Jacquie found love again with Ron Skage. Together they built a life in Mayview, traveled to Paris, and continued their shared passion for teaching, bringing knowledge and kindness to the community of Pinehouse Lake. They remained devoted to each other until Ron’s passing in 2017.
Jacquie’s strength and resilience were undeniable. She bravely faced breast cancer and overcame a stroke, never allowing challenges to dim her spirit. In her later years she moved to Boissevain to be closer to her daughters and grandchildren, finding joy in the everyday moments spent with family.
To know Jacquie was to know a woman of fierce independence, boundless generosity, and an unwavering sense of humor. She was a mentor, a story-teller, a dreamer, and a force or nature. She was someone you could always count on – loyal, loving, and endlessly inspiring.
Jacquie passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, leaving behind a legacy or love, wisdom, and strength. She will be forever missed but never forgotten, living on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to know her.
“She was a teacher, a traveler, a partner, a mother, a sister, a grandmother, and a friend. But above all, she was love.”
