Jacob (Jake) Friesen passed away on May 16th, 2024 in Killarney MB at the age of 87 years. Jake was born in Winkler, MB on August 15th 1936. The family resided in Morden, MB.
Jake at the age of 15 years left home to pursue work in Alberta in the oil fields. He eventually made his way to Killarney, MB when he was 24 years of age, where he met and married Lillian Ruberry. They were married in December of 1960. Thus began their life together.
Jake began working for the creamery in Killarney where he picked up the cream from surrounding farms, delivering it back to the creamery in town.
His first long haul truck driving job was with Drings in Boissevain, MB which set him off on his life long career path. He was a long-haul truck driver for many years, driving for a few different companies before he left the highway. Semis and truck driving were his absolute passion.
When Jake retired from the highway he then went to work for Pugh’s Sand and Gravel, graveling our country roads. He was always passionate about how he laid down the gravel; He loved his time working there and spent his last 19 working years with them until his retirement in 2020.
After his retirement he loved reading western novels, doing crosswords puzzles and watching sports from his armchair. Everything from Nascar races to curing.
His death from cancer was blessedly short from the time of his diagnosis.
He was predeceased by his parents Jake and Justina Friesen, his sister Susan, and his parents-in-law Mel and Agnes Ruberry.
Left to cherish his memory, are his wife of 63 years Lillian, and his four daughters, Debbie (Erwin), Wendy (Shayne), Lori (Ralf), and Kyla (Darryl), also his 9 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren =, his brother john (Ruth), sister Anne (Jake), brother in law Fred (Marilyn) and numerous nieces and nephews.
He will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother and friend.
If friends so desire, donations can be made to the charity of one’s choice.
