James Henderson Obituary

With broken hearts, we announce the passing of our dear husband and father. Jim was born and raised on the family farm near Reston, Manitoba. He was the third youngest of 10 children, born to Jack and Agnes Henderson. He was predeceased by all, with exception of his surviving sister, Mrs. Gerri Hammel of Saskatoon, Sk. As a young man, he began his career as a grain buyer for Lake of the Woods in the Waskada area. This small company was soon taken over by Manitoba Pool Elevators, with whom he devoted the next forty years of his working life. During his tenure, he was relocated to several different communities tasked with growing the customer base, increasing revenues and maintaining clean premises. He developed many trusted relationships within the local farming communities. He was respected by the farmers he served and took pride in the numerous awards he received for managing the cleanest premises. He shared this journey with his loving and devoted wife of sixty-two years, Donna nee Duke. They met early in his career, while he was boarding with her grandparents on their family farm in Harmsworth, MB. He enjoyed retelling this story, with a twinkle in his eyes. Together, they raised four children and navigated the challenges that came with each family move to Miniota, Rapid City, Boissevain and lastly Brandon, MB. They enjoyed their home and neighborhood on Magnacca Crescent, in Brandon, for over thirty years. They received care and support from their neighbours during difficult times, while Jim battled leukemia and after losing a beloved grandson, Dustin James Marr, in 2013. It was a difficult decision for them when they sold their home in 2023 and relocated, once again to Boissevain, MB. He was a devoted and loving husband and father. He was loyal, witty and funny. He was kind and charitable. His wife, Donna, will miss him by her side. His children will miss his wonderful storytelling. His grandchildren will always remember the tic tacs he kept in his shirt pockets. His young greatgrandchildren may remember his gentle and loving nature. He is survived by his wife Donna, his four children Laurie (Rod Phillips), Lisa Henderson, Vivian (Rick Gray) and David Henderson (Colleen); his grandchildren Jenna (Craig Heisler), Amanda Marr (Chad Reynolds), Alyssa (Tanner Jorgensen), Matthew Gray, Kylie Henderson (Isaac Campbell) and Jake Henderson; four great-grandchildren Jack and Charlie Reynolds and Mila and Bowen Jorgensen, as well as numerous extended family members. It isn't goodbye, it's see you later. A private family gravesite internment and celebration will take place in Reston, Manitoba, over the summer.
