Jean Harker (Pfau) Hicks

Jean Harker Hicks, 99, of Aitkin/Cedar Lake, Minnesota  passed away Monday, September 4, 2023 in Aicota Health Care Center, Aitkin.  She was born February 17, 1924 in Duluth, Mn to John “Ben” and Mary “Maybelle” (Harker) Pfau.  Jean grew up in Duluth and had a family cabin on Cook Lake.  In her youth, she participated in tennis, skating and swimming.  Jean enjoyed flying and had 200 hours of Pilot Training.  Jean’s greatest passion was her art.  She painted hundreds of oil paintings along with her husband, Don.  She also gave many away to friends and family and currently has paintings on display at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Cedarbrook as well as Aicota Assisted Living facility in Aitkin.  Jean will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Jean is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Ken Anderson; 2 daughters, Sheryl Menge and Victoria Anderson; brothers, John and Leon Pfau.

Jean is survived by her husband of 47 years, Donald Hicks; daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Soboy; grandchildren, Andrea (Darin) Tysdal and Eric Menge; great grandchildren, Elliot and Lydia Tysdal; son-in-law, John Menge.

Services will be Monday, September 11, at 10 AM in Sorensen-Root-Thompson Funeral Home, Aitkin with Pastor David Peterson officiating.  Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  Interment will be in St. John’s Cemetery at Cedarbrook.
