It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on Feb 3 2023 at the Tri-Lake Health Centre. He leaves behind his wife, Mary, his children Randy (Michelle), Jan ( the late Tom), Carolyn ( Cal), Geoffrey (Donna), and also his cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
John was born near Plum Coulee, MB on July 17, 1931 where he, and many siblings, grew up on the family farm.
He attended school in Scheonwize and had many jobs over his life.  Some of which, were working as a Linesman with Hydro and working in the bush as a lumberjack.
Then, in Blumenort, he met the love of his life. Mary could hardy wait to see John barrelling down the road in that old red dodge, for a date. John and Mary were married in July of 1956 and lived down the road from John's parents.
From there John and Mary moved to Holmfield with a baby boy, to start a new chapter in their life. They  purchased the farm where they raised their family and created many special memories. John and Mary grew crops and had a dairy farm for many years. After retiring from the farm, they moved to Killarney in 1997.
John was a quiet man who loved to fish, to read and tell stories and he loved his family. He really loved babies, especially the new babies that came into the family. Even in his 80's he would get down on the floor, to their level and play with them. He always told Mary that they should have had more kids. John had quite a sense of humor and was a story teller, you could never tell however, if it was fact or fiction. I think in his later years the fiction tended to overtake the facts, which really made for a better story.
John was a great historian and also enjoyed star gazing and looking for the satellites shooting by.
Now as for his faith in God, we would describe it as Dad having a quiet faith. We never saw him sing the hymns, but we knew he hung onto every word the pastor said.
John was content with the simple things in life. He will be greatly missed.
