With sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our father Keith Findlay at St. Therese Villa in Lethbridge, Alberta. Keith was predeceased by his parents Pearl and Edward Findlay, his sisters Helen Seward, Reita Fallis and Merle Fallis, his brother Alvin Findlay; brothers-in-law Gordon Seward, Gerald Fallis, Gordon Fallis, Mac Grieve, Tony Leroux; sister-in-law Doreen Grieve; nieces Sharon (Fallis) Scharf, and Barbara (Millar) Dutro; nephews Randy Fallis and Bob Seward.
He is survived by his daughters Jo-Anne Stephenson (Bob), Karen Howell (Don), Kim Howell (Tim), Pam Uslu (Mustafa), his son Reid Findlay (Jennifer) and their mother Marilyn Findlay. He is also survived by grandchildren Sean, Kyle, Connor, Kelsey, Brett, Carmen, Cassidy, Elif, Tevfik, Devin, Teagan and Katie and great grandchildren Kiera, Briar, Casey, Rylan, Ryder, Bowen, and Mia.
Keith was born on the family farm at Snowflake where he spent his early years. He attended United College in Winnipeg and later obtained his Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Manitoba. In 1958 he received his degree in Dentistry from the University of Toronto. As a committed dentist he served Killarney and area for many years, providing excellent care for patients of all ages. He was active in the life of the community, serving on various boards including Chairperson for the Turtle Mountain School Division.
Dad was known for his sense of humour and many friends found themselves on the receiving end of his frequent practical jokes. The sight of dad pitching a perfectly thrown grapefruit (painted to resemble a softball) to an unsuspecting batter will long remain in our memory and local folklore! Some will remember his gentle teasing as they sat in the dental chair, mouths full of dental gadgets and gauze. He always found their attempts to respond to his well-timed questions or comments to be highly amusing!
Dad took great pleasure in tending his yard and garden situated on the shore of Killarney Lake. It was an idyllic setting and provided us with a wonderful place to grow up.
A family graveside service will be held at the Snowflake Cemetery at a later date.
If desired, donations in memory of Keith may be made to Snowflake Cemetery, c/o Municipality of Pembina, Box 189, Manitou, MB, R0G 1G0 or Star Mound Historical Society, Box 22, Crystal City, MB, R0K 0N0.
