Keith Melvin
April 28, 1935 – April 29, 2023
The family is saddened to announce the passing of Keith Melvin. He passed away peacefully with his family at his side after a brief battle with cancer.
Keith will be lovingly remembered by his partner Julia Vodden, sons Ken (Darlene), Bob (Roberta), Murray (Bonnie), grandchildren Dexter (Ashley), Brant (Meghan), Kara (Anthony), Nicole, Lauren (Michael), Sydney, great grandchildren Danya, Josie, Abbey, Kade and Teagan as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Keith is also survived by Julia’s family including sister Catherine (Vic), Bill( (Alice), children Dean (Jen), Dwayne (Rebecca), Darren (Sarah), grandchildren Jackson, Avery, Taylor (Haydn), Hunter (Alyssa), Lachlan, Alex, Max and Griffin and great grandson Parker.
He is predeceased by his wife of 49 years Fay (Manning) as well as his siblings Roy, Elgin (Helen) and Alda (Fred).
Keith was born in Mather, Manitoba to Andrew and Minnie Melvin in the Graham District south of Mather. His education began at Graham School and ended travelling by train to Crystal City for high school.
He began a 60 year career in the oil industry in 1953. During his career, he worked for numerous companies including Anglo, BA, Royalite, Gulf and Petro-Canada. In 1980, Keith and Fay became independent resellers under Melvin’s Service Centre serving the surrounding areas faithfully for many years.
Keith was a lifetime Mason in addition to being heavily involved in the community of Crystal City including ambulance service, volunteer fire, Chamber of Commerce, Town Council and numerous other committees and associations.
Keith enjoyed taking his boys to all their activities and sports as well as golfing. He particularly enjoyed time golfing with his family every year in the “Melvin Open”. He and Fay spent many weekends and summer holidays camping throughout North America with their boys. Later in life, Keith and Fay wintered in Arizona where they formed lifelong friendships and that continued with Julia. In addition, his passion for old time music led him and Julia to go on numerous trips across North America.
The joy in Keith’s life came from spending time with his family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Crystal City Benevolent Society.
