Marie was born in Victoriaville, QC, in a family of 11 children (2 sisters and 8 brothers). She frequently spoke of happy times in her childhood – working on the family cabin, playing hockey with her brothers, visiting her grandmother, and eating ‘trempette’, and having frequent Friday night family suppers with her grandfather where they’d eat ‘galettes sarrasin’.
She moved to Manitoba in search of job opportunities when she was 21. She worked as a nurse in Rivers and Souris for several years. She met the love of her life, Roger, in March 1987. They quickly became engaged 7 weeks later and then married on October 3, 1987. Hardship tested their marriage at the very beginning - they lost their first daughter, Monique, shortly after she was born. Their love for each other carried them through this and they went on to have 4 more daughters – Catherine, Hélène, Rachel and Marianne. Nothing was more important to Marie than family, she stressed this often and loved to have family get-togethers and weekly Sunday suppers. She gained 4 sons via her daughters’ relationships and treated them as if they were her own. When grandchildren began arriving, the first being in 2017, Marie was thrilled. She loved to play with her grandchildren and would often make crafts and clothes for them.
Marie absolutely loved the farm and helped Roger in the fields, running any equipment necessary. She was also an avid gardener and maintained the various flower beds on the farm as well as a large vegetable garden. She loved to can and freeze produce and also made her own flour and bread. She also liked to make her own cards and gave personalized ones to her grandchildren for their birthdays.
Marie was known for her constant smile and sense of humour. She was always optimistic and could be counted on to lighten any mood. She was well-loved by many and will be deeply missed.
You will never be forgotten. We love you, Marie.
