Obituary

Mary Victoria McLeod, our lovely mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother passed away peacefully in White Rock, B.C. on Friday, April 28, 2023.
In her last days she had beautiful visions of her father Lee Roy Wray and mother Mary Ann (Menarey) Wray calling her, “let’s go.” We are joyful that she has gone to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus, as well as her family and friends that have gone before her.
Mary was born on May 24, 1927, in Roblin Municipality and grew up in Cartwright, Manitoba. She had a happy childhood in a musical family surrounded by her ten siblings. On December 18, 1948, Mary married Clifford George McLeod (born in Vista, MB). After several years in Cartwright, they moved to: Swift Current, SK, Winnipeg, MB and Killarney, MB before retiring in White Rock BC in 2002.
Mary and Cliff were blessed with three children: Nadine Ann Pileggi (Francisco), Kirsten Lynn Yvonne McLeod (Richard Domenco) and Danny Ray McLeod (Ingrid). Mary was predeceased by her husband, Clifford and her son, Danny Ray.
Mary is survived by her two daughters, Nadine and Kirsten, her three granddaughters, Carla Pileggi Caviola (Charles), Bianca Pileggi (Sergio Gregori), and Vanessa Pileggi (Pawel Figat), in addition to her five great grandchildren Ciena Caviola, Valentina Caviola, Lorena Caviola, Max Pileggi, and Skye Pileggi. Mary’s family was of outmost importance to her, and she loved each and every one, frequently talking fondly of them all.
In addition to raising her children, Mary worked in Cartwright and Brandon. In Winnipeg, she excelled as the Front Desk Supervisor at the YWCA. Later, she was employed by Manitoba Hydro before entering Real Estate upon retirement. Mary was always a valued, loyal, and dedicated employee.
Mary loved music and piano and was a self-taught pianist. She would often burst into song with any given (or non-given) cue – to her grandchildren’s delight. Mary enjoyed socializing with family and friends and was a great hostess. She attended the United Church of Canada and St. John’s Presbyterian Church in White Rock, and loved to watch Christian television and had a very strong faith which was an integral part of her life. Mary loved hymns and Bible study. She always dressed beautifully and elegantly, even in her old age. Mary was talented in baking, painting, sewing, curling, and crafts. Mary loved to share her stained-glass angels with family and friends and enjoyed participating in craft shows along with Cliff.
Besides traveling in Canada and mainland USA, Mary enjoyed visiting Hawaii, Brazil, Ireland, and Israel.
We are proud of Mom’s accomplishments during her lifetime as well as her strength and determination. She will be remembered with love by her family and friends. Her children and grandchildren will carry on many of her traditions that they grew up with and will keep her memory alive. Mary was just shy of her 96th Birthday on May 24, 2023. However, now she will be celebrating with her loved ones who have been waiting for her. Well done my good and faithful servant! We celebrate and honor Mary's life. We will always love her while holding onto many wonderful memories, until we meet again. We love you!
Mary’s family sincerely thanks all the friends, staff, doctors, and physiotherapists for their love and kindness provided at Westminster House in Surrey, BC. They provided a special welcoming and gracious home for our beautiful and beloved mother in her last days. She was most appreciative of the assistance and dedication provided to her. We are forever grateful for Lita Urquhart, Mary’s fantastic nurse who has been continuously by her side over this most difficult past year. Mary’s family would also like to thank Pat Petrala, Mary’s neighbor and friend for her great support and friendship over the years.

A graveside service will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023 at 3:00 p.m. at the St. Vital Cemetery, 236 River Road Winnipeg, Manitoba R2M 5G6.  Family and friends are welcome to attend.
