Murray Douglas McMillan, age 71 of Brandon, Manitoba, passed away on April 23, 2023.
Murray was born in Deloraine, Manitoba to Margaret and Donald McMillan on December 5,
1951. He was raised on the McMillan family farm south of Waskada with his sister, Donna and
brother, Bryce. Murray attended Hernfield and Waskada Schools followed by university in
Brandon. Murray worked in feed and farm chemical sales for many years before purchasing A &
J Pump Services which he operated as a petroleum contractor for over 25 years.
Murray married Gloria Morrison in 1977 and they had 3 children together, Steven, Jana and
Daniel. Murray was a devoted husband and father. He always made time to be at any game,
tournament or event that his children were involved in. In retirement, he found his true calling as
“Papa”. Ever the jokester, teacher and best friend Murray made sure that every minute of every
visit with his beloved grandchildren was filled with memories that will be forever in their hearts.
Murray took immense pride in his home and especially the backyard where every summer the
pool was always full and ready for family and friends. Each fall, Murray could be found at the
McMillan family farm helping his nephew Curtis, Kay and family with harvest. Murray and Gloria
enjoyed many trips over the years, but the most cherished times were spent together during
family holidays and celebrations.
Murray played and loved many sports including broomball, curling, baseball and fastball. He
was a loyal Wheat Kings fan and season ticket holder for many years. He loved spending Friday
mornings with his Inukshuk cribbage group. Murray also enjoyed volunteering at Trinity United
Church where he served in many roles.
Murray will always be remembered as a genuinely kind man, with a great sense of humour, who
made time for anyone and made everyone who met him feel special. He will be truly missed by
all who were lucky enough to have known him.
Murray is survived by his wife Gloria; son, Steven (Katie-Jo) and their children, Avery and Cole;
daughter Jana (Jason) Moore and their children, Malcolm and Ian; son, Daniel (Amy Betker)
and their child, Henry. He is also survived by sister, Donna (Doug) Adams; brother, Bryce
(Lorna); brothers-in-law, Lew, John, Don (Phyllis), Greg (Wilma) and Tim (Carol); and many
nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Murray was predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Donald McMillan; in-laws, Phyllis and
John Morrison; and sister-in-law Betty Morrison.
A funeral service was held on April 29, 2023, at Trinity United Church in Brandon, Manitoba with
Rev. Doug Neufeld officiating. A time of fellowship took place at the Clarion Inn and Suites
following the service.
Donations in memory of Murray may be made to the Trinity United Church; 1515 6 th St.
