RUTH HELENA DOW
(MACKIE)
April 29, 1928 – September 1, 2019

It is with sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Ruth Dow at the Tri-Lake Health Centre in Killarney, Mb.
Ruth was predeceased by her husband George; her parents, William and Alma Mackie; her sister Grace Henderson; brothers-in-law Gordon Cliffe and Doug Henderson; nephew Richard Cliffe and great-niece Daphne Obleman.
She is survived by her daughter Anne Dow-Clarke (Stephen Clarke), son Edward (Marielle Gaultier Dow); her granddaughters Meaghan Clarke, Abigail Clarke and Sophie Dow; her sister Laura Cliffe; her nieces Dawne Obleman (Bob), Sandra Marcus and Karla Henderson; and her great –nephew Rick Obleman and family.  She will also be missed by her many friends.
Born and raised in Minto, Manitoba, Ruth pursued a banking career that began in  Boissevain, moved on to Winnipeg, and continued in the United States.  In 1955 she married George Dow and they moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa where George completed his medical training.  In 1956 they relocated to Killarney, where they settled in to raise a family and establish a life long home.

Ruth was a very busy girl right until the end!  She was active  her whole adult life in the U.C.W. and the Eastern Star, having served both organizations in various capacities.  She was involved with the Killarney golf and curling clubs and served on the executives of both on a number of occasions.  More recently bowling became a passion, so much so that a few important medical appointments in Brandon had to be rescheduled in recent years so that she would not miss her weekly bowling competition.  Over the years, Ruth also spent many hours around a card table playing bridge with friends and neighbours right into the spring of 2019.
Mom and Dad travelled extensively for many years.  Winter vacations to the Caribbean were a particular highlight  and Ruth always returned home with an award winning tan!

Any description of Ruth Dow would be incomplete without mentioning her penchant for entertaining, decorating and shopping – not necessarily in that order.  Over the years she hosted countless teas and dinner parties and spent hours on preparation, and she loved every minute of it.  When it came to decorating only one thing need be said …the color pink was fundamental to her existence!
At mom’s request a family graveside service was held on September 12th, with Wheatland Funeral Service in charge of arrangements.
The family would like to thank all of the amazing staff at the Tri-Lake Health Centre- your skill and compassion will always be appreciated.  In addition we thank CancerCare in both Brandon and Winnipeg, Garth Nichol and the staff at Wheatland, and all of those who have expressed condolences.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Killarney United Church or the Killarney Foundation.
