Ruth Follis (Fuchs)

 
Ruth was born February 16, 1930 and raised on the family farm in Cartwright Manitoba. She was the youngest of five children born to George and Barbara Fuchs. All of her immediate family have predeceased her. Ruth was a student at schools in East Mountain, Cartwright and Crystal City. She taught school for nearly 30 years and loved every minute of it.  Right out of high school she taught on permit at Sinkerville School and in 1950 she attended Provincial Normal School in Winnipeg. Ruth taught at Hazeldell School for several years and a year at Tiger Hills. In 1956 she moved to Pilot Mound where she taught grades 1 and 2 for nine years. Ruth lived with Jean Follis in her home up the street from the school. She married Melvin Follis (Jean's nephew) in 1962 and became part of that family. She left teaching in 1964 but when Melvin passed away in 1970, Ruth returned to teaching in Pilot Mound until she retired in 1978. 
 

Ruth purchased Jean Follis's home in   but did not leave the farm until 2000. She enjoyed travelling with friends and family in her early years, she loved living on the farm, gardening, canning, cooking and entertaining people in her home. Ruth was a loyal supporter of the Pilot Mound community, an avid bowler and attended most social activities in the area. While she had no children of her own, Ruth was actively involved in the lives of her friend's children and proud of her nine nieces and nephews. She loved celebrating their achievements,  attending their weddings and preparing holiday meals for them. Ruth lived at the Prarie View Lodge since 2018 where she received extraordinary care until her peaceful passing on May 15, 2023 in the presence of family. Ruth cared deeply for friends having close relationships with many who will miss her.
