Thomas G. Emslie Obituary

Thomas George Emslie passed away peacefully at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital in Nanaimo, BC.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jean (née Wiebe/Clark); his children, Craig Emslie, Barbara (Harley) Leeson, Carolyn (Cameron) Davie, and Kurt Emslie; and his chosen daughters, San Kinley and Deb DeVaughn.
He was a proud grandfather to Sheldon (Desiree) Leeson, Kelsey (Brandon) Herrera, Justin (Lisa) Kinley, Sydney Young, Brock (Elvira) English, Shanteyl Leeson, Lynsey Young, Jenna Emslie, Alyssa English (James Granger), Justin (Grace) Leeson, Jazmin Davie, and Creed Emslie. He also leaves behind thirteen cherished great-grandchildren.

“Tom” was predeceased by his beloved first wife, Lillian “Lil” Emslie (nee Klywak), two
sisters, Ann (Garth) Goring and Linda (Wayne) Rehberg, and his grandson Brad Kinley.

Tom was born in Hamiota, MB, and grew up in Bradwardine, MB, before moving to Brandon,
MB to pursue his passion for education. Tom went on to become a respected teacher and
principal in Brandon, Ninette, and many northern communities in the province throughout his
long career. He had an incredible love for nature and the people of northern Manitoba, and
his greatest professional joy came from improving the lives of others through education.
Tom had a sharp wit and wry sense of humour that stayed with him through his life. He
enjoyed fishing, travelling through Canada and the United States, and flying on sea and
bush planes. He spent the last twenty years living in Nanaimo, BC, with Jean, where he
found joy in collecting coins and solving puzzles.

Tom’s unwavering dedication to God was the cornerstone of his life. A man of profound faith
and conviction, he lived each day guided by a strong moral compass and a deep,
contemplative relationship with the Lord. His devotion wasn’t confined to church walls or
Sunday mornings, it was expressed through quiet reflection on the character of God, diligent
prayer for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and the wisdom he shared
from a lifetime of walking with the Lord. Whether in moments of joy or hardship, Tom turned
to his faith with steadfast trust. His kind words, humble spirit, and the quiet strength of his
actions inspired those around him to seek grace, compassion, and purpose.

We mourn his loss to us but rejoice that he is in the presence of his Saviour today.
