Verna Irene Snell

It is with heavy hearts we wish to announce the passing of our beloved mother Verna, on October 31st, 2018 at the age of 88.
Verna was predeceased by her husband Ted and her son Robert. She leaves to cherish her memory her son Clarke (Gwen) and daughter Colleen (Gerry); grandchildren Murray, Elizabeth, Jacky (Erik), and Eric; great-grandson Aiden; sisters Carole and Shirley; her Aunt Lois; and many loving nieces and nephews.
She was born March 1st, 1930 to Richard and Florence Sutton and grew up on various farms in Cartwright, Wakopa and Killarney. In her youth, she enjoyed riding horses, chumming around with her pals, and helping her father with chores on the farm.
Verna married Ted Snell in 1951, forming a partnership that would go on to last 60 years before Ted’s passing in 2011. Verna was very involved with the cattle on the farm and was an avid gardener. She encouraged her children in their love of books, art, and music. Verna belonged to both the Oak Ridge Women’s Institute and the Holy Trinity Anglican Church women’s group, taking on the roles of treasurer and president at various times.
Throughout her life, Verna enjoyed good times with her friends and family, playing cards and shuffleboard, golfing, and bowling. A major interest in her life was art at which she was immensely talented. She painted in both watercolour and oil throughout her life, taking courses and joining the local art group.
Even at Bayside Personal Care Home in recent years, she would sketch horses for anyone who asked and blend colours beautifully in her adult colouring books.
The family wishes to thank the health care teams at Killarney and Brandon hospitals for their attentive treatment in recent weeks. A special thank you to the caring staff at Bayside, as Verna and her family were blessed to have such wonderful care and support during her time there.
