It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Walter Hilhorst on December 27th, at the age of 83.
Walter was born July 16, 1942 in Holland Manitoba to Joe and Madeline Hilhorst. His
family moved to the Maple Hurst Farm in 1953 where they farmed dairy, crops, and
pigs. He spent his time playing baseball, hockey, and hunting.

Walter worked as the milk man in Glenboro before upgrading his ride to work as a truck
driver for Esso in Glenboro. In 1968, Walter and Sharon packed up and moved to
Killarney when Walter became the managing agent of the Killarney Esso. While in
Killarney, he dedicated 17 years to the Killarney Fire Department. After 25 years at
Esso, he finished his working days as a traveling sales agent in the auto parts industry
which allowed him to meet and visit with people and family in the area.

He married his beautiful wife, Sharon Frederickson in 1965. They raised their three
boys, Travis (1966), Paul (1968) and Cory (1970) in Killarney. His time was dedicated to
coaching his boys in both hockey and baseball. Once he retired, he was able to focus
his time on his passion of maintaining the senior ball diamond, where he was later
honored for his dedication to the field and baseball naming the diamond “Hilhorst Field”.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon, sons, Travis (Bev), Paul (Leanne), Cory (Erica),
grandchildren, Breanne (Chris), Cejay (Brett), Ben (Megan), Ethan, Drew, Ella (Reid),
Callie (Ty), and great-grandchildren, Max and Walker, brothers, Tony and Chuck
(Nancy) Hilhorst, and sister, Eileen Wilton (Bob), sister-in-law, Marilyn (Stan) Ehnes,
and brother-in-law, Craig (Donna) Frederickson.
He is pre-deceased by his parents, Joe and Madeline Hilhorst, sister, Agnes
Witherspoon, brothers-in-law, Glen Witherspoon and Harold Wilton, sisters-in-law,
Bonnie Hilhorst and Thoralee Edmondson, mother-in-law, Bernice Frederickson, and
father-in-law, Allan Frederickson.
