Wayne Lawerence Nichol, age 78, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2025, at the
Killarney Bayside Personal Care Home with his wife Adelyn by his side.
Wayne was born in Killarney, Manitoba on January 23, 1947, first of 4 sons (Wayne,
Ronald, Kelvin, Gordon) to Ivan and Norma Nichol and was raised in the Rosevalley
district and lived his entire life on Rosevalley road, from attending Rosevalley school,
raising his family, farming the land, to retirement and enjoying his regular drives through
the area.
Wayne and Adelyn married on May 4, 1968, and moved into their house on the farm
that same year, and had their two children, Kevin on November 1, 1968, and Lorrie was
born on April 30, 1970.
Wayne & Adelyn farmed with his father Ivan, Uncle Mert, and 3 brothers for many years,
in the late 1990’s Wayne and brother Kelvin remained farming grain and cattle primarily
and ventured into the hog production industry.
Wayne became reeve of the Municipality of Killarney-Turtle Mountain in 1989, serving
on the council to 2005 and Wayne enjoyed serving the community and all the
friendships he made along the way.
Beyond his love of farming and council, Wayne was a member of the Killarney Elks
club, board member on the Killarney Foundation for many years, he was always looking
to support the community and betterment of the town and municipality. Wayne also
spent numerous hours volunteering for community initiatives such as the Killarney
Heritage Home for the Arts, Tri-Lake Health Centre, the curling club, & the legion.
Wayne was an avid lifelong curler and enjoyed liniment league baseball in his younger
days, then took up golf in his later years, the social environment made for some
memorable times and best of friends.
Wayne & Adelyn were blessed with wonderful granddaughters and spent as much time
as possible with them growing up, enjoying school events, sporting activities, travel, and
being a special part of their lives.
In 2008 Wayne and Adelyn began spending winters in south Texas and spent 13 years
traveling down south to enjoy the warm winter months taking in golf, and social events.
In 2013 Wayne & Kelvin sold the farming business to retire from farming, though
Wayne kept the farm house and 21 acres of land that would be home to a dozen or two
cow/calve pairs every spring and summer to keep the grass down but also for the
enjoyment of hobby farming, even when he had to round them up and fix fence, it
created some amusement along Rosevalley road with the neighbours. Wayne and
Kelvin kept haying the local area for many years as a way of maintaining grass areas
and enjoyment of being out on the land together.
Wayne and Adelyn were fortunate after retirement to take in many adventures travelling
the world with friends and family, bringing home memories and new friendships from
every trip.
It was on November 8, 2022, Wayne suffered a life changing incident when a fall on the
curling ice would end with a traumatic brain injury creating dementia and downturn in his
health. Wayne passed away peacefully at Bayside Personal Care Home.
